How Do Needle Valves Function?
There are two types of needle valves used to control and regulate water flow and pressure; manual and automated valves.
A handwheel is used to control the distance between the valve seat and the plunger in the manual needle valve. The plunger lifts open the valve, and fluid passes through when the handwheel is turned. To decrease the flow rate or close the needle valve, you simply turn the handwheel the opposite way.
Instead of a hand wheel, automated valves are connected to a hydraulic motor which opens and closes the valve system. The hydraulic motor is also responsible for adjusting the plunger’s position, moderating the pressure and fluid flow.
