Socket Welded and Threaded Fittings
Small diameter pipe sizes 2” NPS and lower generally use threaded and socket weld fittings. The mechanism behind socket weld fittings allows the pipe to firmly align itself through the deep socket of the fitting and provide a seal-tight connection. Depending on the application, you might need screwed fittings that have female (internal) threads or male (external) threads. Some of the most common configurations for threaded and socket-weld fittings are:

Butt-Weld Fittings
Butt-weld fittings are also manufactured using stainless steel for optimum performance and to ensure the safety of the application and the crew. Butt-weld elbows can be manufactured in three standard radii 90º, 180º and 45º. When contacting your supplier, you must clarify what type of radius your application requires to ensure the best possible performance. For instance, a “long radius” means that the centre of the fitting to the end dimension is one and a half times the size of a nominal pipe. On the other hand, requesting a fitting with a “short radius” means that the centre to end dimension of the fitting is equal to the nominal pipe size. If you’re looking to make a branch from a pipeline, then you should be asking your supplier for butt-weld tees. For every application, you will need a different configuration of stainless steel butt-weld fitting, and it’s crucial to inform your supplier of the exact dimensions on the fitting chart.
