Material Used
Industrial tube fittings are typically available in three different types of metal:
- Stainless Steel Fittings
- Carbon Steel Fittings
- Brass Fittings
Stainless steel fittings are most commonly used in the industrial field as they are extremely tough and provide excellent resistance to chemical exposure and corrosion. They are best suited for high temperature and pressure applications as they can withstand temperatures ranging from -425º to 1200ºF (-254º to 649ºC) and pressure ratings of 10,000 PSI. Some stainless steel fittings can be specially designed for extremely high-pressure applications of up to 20,000 psi.
Industrial Usage
As the name suggests, industrial tube fittings are typically used for a variety of applications in a wide range of industries, including petrochemical, fluid power, marine, chemical, aerospace and automotive. While there are many different types of industrial tube fittings, the most common fittings are:
- SAE 37º Flare Fittings (SAE J514)
The most prominent feature of SAE 37º flare fittings is the ability to withstand extreme conditions. SAE J514 is used in powerful applications that are subject to high vibration, thermal shock and pressure. 37º flare fittings are designed to ensure that the tube sleeve is in alignment with the fitting and, as a result, reduce the strain on the tube. The unique design of SAE J514 makes it well suited for seamless disassembly and reassembly during maintenance, without any need to replace components.
- O-ring Face Seal Fittings
O-ring face seal fittings are designed to have extremely high resistance to leaks. They are often used in liquid fuel control systems, turbine controls and many other applications that require a leak-free tight seal. O-ring face seal fittings are often the best choice for applications used in chemical plants, hydraulic fracturing operations, general industrial equipment and off-road construction equipment, as they can offer leak-free seals even under extreme vibrations.
- SAE Flareless Bite Type Fittings
SAE flareless bite-type fittings are designed to “bite into” the tubing wall to provide exceptional shock absorption and holding power, but they are limited to the number of times they can be disassembled and reassembled. Each time they are reassembled, the ferrule bites deeper into the tube wall. SAE flareless type fittings are commonly used in applications that undergo high vibration and don’t require regular assembly and reassembly.
