In multiple industries, valves are predominantly used to control the flow of fluid and protect gauges from any damage that may occur from pressure and temperature surges. Purchasing high-quality valves that can handle high temperature and pressure demands and ensure smooth and safe fluid control is a necessity for many industries. Read on to learn more about the different types of valves and where to purchase high-quality valves in Canada.
Check Valves
A check valve, also known as a reflux valve or a one-way valve, restricts the flow of fluid only in one direction. It is designed to have two openings in the body, where one valve allows the fluid to enter and the other allows the fluid to leave. Usually, check valves operate automatically to ensure that the flow of the fluid operates in one direction and prevents any backflow that might occur in the piping system.
Relief Valves
Pressurized systems such as piping or boilers require the use of relief valves to protect them from over-pressure conditions. Not only do these types of valves relieve internal pressure, they also relieve external pressure. Relief valves are commonly used in any system where over or under pressure conditions can occur, such as gas lines, pneumatic compressors and cryogenic systems.
Ball Valves
Ball valves can also be used to regulate the flow of fluid but they are mostly used in piping systems to shut off the liquid or gas flow completely. Standard or threaded ball valves are commonly used as they come in wide varieties and have a wide range of options. Hydraulic ball valves are manufactured explicitly for hydraulic and heating systems. They are able to withstand high operating pressure ratings up to 500 bar and temperature ratings up to 80ºC. Needle Valves
Unlike most valves, needle valves are operated manually. They regulate continuous flow and give extremely precise flow control in small diameter piping systems. Needle valves are commonly used in metering and vacuuming systems where accurate flow regulation is required. Although most valves are designed to be used in shut-off applications, needle valves are not ideally suited for that. Due to the high number of turns required to close a needle valve completely, it is not frequently used as a shut-off valve.
High-Quality Needle Valves
Manufactured using 316 stainless steel, alloy 400 or brass, Hy-Lok’s high-pressure needle valve can handle pressure ratings up to 10,000 psig at 38ºC and withstand temperature ratings from -23ºC to 232ºC. In order to ensure that all our products function in accordance with national and international certifications, we put them through rigorous testing. Each high-pressure bar stock needle valve is tested with nitrogen at 1000 psig to a maximum leak rate of 0.1 SCMM and can be run through other tests upon request.
